Why we started Treat

The first step into care should be clear and fast: no booking, a doctor in minutes and follow-up care through the healthcare you already have.

Onni Hakala and I started Treat in April 2026. The problem we wanted to solve was the unclear first step into healthcare: where do I start, whom do I call and how long will I wait? We believe that first step should be clear and fast.

Nobody should have to repeat themselves

When someone is worried about their health, they want to know what happens next. Instead, they often have to work out which channel their complaint belongs to, explain their situation on the phone, again at check-in and once more in the consulting room.

This isn't because healthcare professionals do their jobs badly. It's because the route to them was built on the system's terms, not the patient's. Technology can help a doctor understand the situation from the start, so that people don't have to repeat themselves, navigate unnecessary steps or wait.

What we are building

We are building a service where you describe your concern in your own words in a chat. AI asks follow-up questions and structures the information you provide. You review and confirm that information before a licensed doctor assesses your case and decides on care or the right next step.

  • No booking. Our aim is a first step without an appointment.
  • A doctor in minutes. Fast access to a doctor's assessment is the goal we are building towards.
  • Every decision made by a doctor. AI structures information; a licensed doctor makes the clinical decisions.

Treat is not an emergency service. In an emergency, always call 112.

AI asks, the doctor decides

The role of AI in Treat is tightly limited. It asks follow-up questions and prepares a summary of the answers for the doctor. It does not diagnose, treat, assess urgency or make automated decisions. Every clinical decision is made by a licensed doctor registered with the Finnish Supervisory Agency (Lupa- ja valvontavirasto), who is also responsible for the patient record.

Our design keeps personal data within the EEA and excludes using patient conversations to train AI models. We use AI to help the doctor understand the information you provide.

Part of the healthcare you already have

We are building Treat to work alongside the healthcare you already have: public healthcare, a private provider, occupational healthcare or insurance.

Finland's national patient-record services, Kanta and the Prescription Centre, are part of the workflow we are building. Treat is intended to complement occupational healthcare.

Who we are

Onni leads our technology, with a background in building critical infrastructure for banks, payments and logistics platforms. I previously co-founded Swappie and the Finnish Startup Community. Together, we are starting with a clear question: how can the path to the right care become simpler?

The goal: the right care in minutes

Treat is only getting started. Our goal is that getting the right care in minutes becomes a normal expectation everywhere in the world, not an exception. We are starting in Finland, because here we have strong public healthcare, Kanta and strong electronic identification to build on.

This is the beginning. We will share what we learn as we build Treat.
